INU YASHA

Anybody ever watch INU YASHA? I just read a cool interview with Moneca Stori (one of the voice artists) in a magazine and I had to find this anime. I was pleasantly surprised. All about a dog/boy/demon creature and his human girlfriend searching after some magic jewels through feudal Japan. Pretty neat and sexy.

A better question might be "Who HASN'T seen Inu-yasha?". It's one of the few japanimations to be dubbed and broadcasted in the states. If you're into the cool/sexy thing (who the hell isn't), check out Cowboy Bebob, Noir, X and Saint Seiya.

I prefer to watch the uncut fansubbed version of Inuyasha myself. And why the hell does everyone spell it diferently? ;)

I love that show. Every night when I get home from work I look forward to watching it on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network at 11:00. The characters are drawn amazingly and the story is good. Gotta love guys with silver hair and dog ears and girls with giant boomerangs. Sango rules!!

        Miroku's a fox. (Well, I know Shippo's a fox..but figurtively speaking...)

        Gotta love the oversexed priests.

I just found that magazine again that had the interview with Moneca Stori (voice of Kagome). It's called Sirens of Cinema and they have about 3 or 4 pages with Moneca. Pretty cool.

The worst thing I've ever done is watch Inu Yasha in Japanese, then watch the same episode in English. Truly painful.

    Amusing bit of trivia:
"Yasha" means "a type of female demon".

... and inu means DOG. Inuyasha! Dog-Demon! Or Youkai... does anybody watch the japanese versions? Inuyasha rules! (embarrassed by how much he likes this show)

Yeah, except Inuyasha isn't a female.
Or is he? Those Japanese can get pretty freaky...

Oh, and I ONLY watch the Japanese versions.
        Inuyasha wa hanyoukai da.

There's no comparison, really, between the Japanese originals and the English dubbed versions. The Japanese versions were clearly intended for a more mature audience. No knock against the English voice artists but the scripts for the English versions are definitely reworked to attract 10 to 15 year olds.

Speaking of the English alterations, I've got a question. If we can teach kids about history's wars, death, famines and genocides, why can't they see animated wars, death, famines and genocides? Why are death scenes and the occasional boob edited out? Are Japanese kids more in touch with reality?

well gee, that's a super-huge and complicated issue isn't it? Who do you think would win in Miroku and Inuyasha got into a fight?

I've found that subtitled episodes give a much richer experience of the story. Japanese expressions are often explained in subtitles whereas in the dubbed versions they are often ignored or translated to sound more American. But anyway... Sesshomaru kicks ass! Wooohoooo!

Either way you slice it it's an awesome show. I love how Inuyasha is drawn and yeah it's funny as hell seeing Miroku go after all the babes, especially when he asks Sango to bear his child :)

Overall I like the series, it's a good mix of cool and lighthearted...

Yeah Inuyasha is really good in the dub. I've really not heard to much of the original Japanese version, but either way the show rocks.

Yeah, I agree. Inuyasha is way better dubbed. I watched Inuyasha in Japanese after watching it dubbed and it was horrible!

I've always been a fan of her work ever since seeing ranma so many years ago. buy I wasnt prepared on liking this series as much as I do. it is quickly moving it's way to the top of my list. I doubt it will ever surpass Fushigi yugi in my mind but I love it all the same. The romance is so cute Inuyasha is so stubborn I love it.

I'm a huge Inuyasha Fan. Am i the only Sesshomaru Fan? lol The japanese ones aren't that different from the english ones I don't think at least. I have seen both types. And I prefer the dubbed. But thats just me. Inuyasha reminds me of me sometimes just how bratty and stubborn he is lol. =)

I love this series and I just saw the Inu Yasha 1 movie omigod sesshumoru the animated fight sequence for him in the begining is to die for...wicked hotness.. and they totally mess with you as usual with the evil love triangle... but its good... I was so happy when cartoon network picked up the series I've been waiting since 97..<tears of joy> I must buy the soudtrack and it even has a recap on the dvd...

Okay, since there seem to be mostly Inuyasha fans in this thread, I have to pass along this story to you...

A friend of mine (who would also like to think of himself as an "anime fan") recently told me (and I swear this is a direct quoted conversation): "I don't see what you see in Inuyasha... To me, it's no different or better than Pokemon..."

To which I could only blink at him several times truly speahless for several moments, really trying to figure out how to respond without sounding insulting.

"Have you tried watching more than 2 or 3 episodes, yet...?" I asked.

"Nope - I don't care to. I think it sucks." He replied... And then he started about trying to argue with me (for what purpose, I don't know, to convince me that his stupid judgemental reaction was somehow "logical" or more correct than mine)

(Again - I was at a total loss for words - suddenly it became really really apparent why he was so enthralled by "Yu-Gi-Oh!" at age 26, and was about the same time when I started considering that I might need a new class of friends with whom I could share any emotional depth)

I can honestly say that I have never been emotionally moved in any way, shape or form by Pokemon, or any of that breed of animation... However, with an epic like Inuyasha (which is so artfully done start to finish), I regularly find myself busting out in laughter or tearing up during the tender scenes... Now THAT'S art! (Pokemon indeed! - retching noises)

*THIS* would be why they re-dub them to the mentality of a teenager in English...

I got so absorbed with Inu Yasha that I have now watched tons of episodes and the movies. I've watched in the original Japanese and in the dubbed English versions.

It's safe to say that there is no comparison between the two versions but that's not to say that I find one better than the other. I like them both in different ways. The Japanese one is more serious and I can really get into the drama of the stories. The English version is more lighthearted and you get a more comical feel every once in a while.

Does anyone know if any more movies are on the way?

I havn't heard anything about more movies, however they are talking about creating more for the storyline.

Try reading Inuyasha's Sengoku o-Togi Zoushi
the author is going to try for 500 chapters because they hit 400 already.
